Lord Bilimoria inducted into Hall of Fame on IIHM’s International Hospitality Day 2022

To celebrate and recognize the aspect of human nature, Dr Suborno Bose, hospitality evangelist, Chief Mentor of the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) and CEO, Convenor of IHC, London in association with International Hospitality Council (IHC) initiated the International Hospitality Day (IHD) on 24th April in 2016.

Ever since, the objective is to dedicate one day in the year to the Hospitality industry and:
Celebrate,
Promote
and Educate in Hospitality.

In this blog, one will know what is IHD? Why IIHM and its campuses across the Globe celebrate IHD and the felicitations of professionals from across the World.

What is IHD & why it is celebrated Globally?

Furthermore, IHD witnesses a celebration of our fantastic restaurants, hotels, pubs and bars around the country. It promotes the workers, business owners, and suppliers who assist them.

IIHM has been successful in conducting a special celebration on IHD to help those businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic

The commemoration IHD kick-started with a global celebration, attended by Hospitality professionals and international members of the IHC.

Prof. David Foskett, MBE, Chairman, IHC, opened the Global celebration with an inspirational address to all those associated with the Hospitality industry.

Hall of Fame

IIHM and IHC have also introduced the ‘HALL OF FAME’ award where the contribution of Industry stalwarts is recognized.

The inductees are personalities who have not only achieved phenomenal entrepreneurial success, but have also mentored, inspired and shaped those around them.

One such extraordinary leader of the hospitality industry inducted in the ‘HALL OF FAME’ this year is Lord Karan Bilimoria.

Lord Karan Bilimoria

Lord Karan Bilimoria, CBE, DL, FCA, Founder and Chairman of Cobra Beer, President of Confederation of British Industry (CBI) was born in Hyderabad, India. Lord Bilimoria received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad in 1981, at the age of nineteen.

Lord Bilimoria and Arjun Reddy founded Cobra Beer in 1989, after concluding their import-export ventures. He managed to raise more than a million in sales revenue even after facing issues with funds, leading to an achievement amongst many.

Lord Bilimoria was appointed Deputy Lieutenant for Greater London in 2001 and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2004 Birthday Honors for his contributions to business and entrepreneurship.
On June 16, 2006, he was created Baron Bilimoria of Chelsea in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea as an Independent Crossbench Life Peer in the House of Lords.

He is the first Parsi Zoroastrian to serve in the House of Lords. Since 2007, Lord Bilimoria has served as a non-executive Director and Senior Independent Director of Booker Group PLC, UK’s largest wholesale operator.

In 2011, he was appointed chairman of Molson Coors Cobra India, a joint venture in India between Cobra Beer and Molson Coors. In 2005, Heriot-Watt University bestowed upon him an honorary doctorate. Lord Bilimoria was elected President of the Confederation of British Industry in June 2020.

Other Awardees

Those who have been inducted to the Hall of Fame are- Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons( 2017). Padmashree Chef Sanjeev Kapoor (2019) and Chef Raymond Blanc (2020).
